C1 tank cover - are there supposed to be washers?

Both Corvette Central and Paragon sell a set of screw for the tank cover, in my case a 1960. Their kits come with star washers and flat washers. However, the AIM only show screw and no washers called out.

    Which is correct?

    Thanks,

    Only screws on mine.

Whether this is "correct" or not, I don't know but I do believe I was the first one to remove them when I had to replace the gas tank.

Donald: Sorry that I cannot comment on the cover washers, but I have a tank related question.

Did your car have a rectangular block or "Square washer" on the tank strap mounting bolts? There are photos of this in this discussion board archives, but locally there is some debate about the type of washer used on those bolts.

Mine did not when I took the old tank out, but I don't think much of anything was original on mine. The replacement straps I got from Paragon came with the rectangular washers.

While on this subject, does anyone know why the Quanta replacement tanks are larger? I had to damage my replacement tank to get it in and then more adjusting "read damage" to get the cover to sit down. Why can't they make a tank that fits!!

            Don,

Our 1956-62 tank cover will come with different parts that were designated for differing years. For certain model years, the washers will not be necessary.

What years are the washers used on?

I think the best way to verify would be to consult the applicable AIM or an NCRS Judge.
