'69 427/390 Flame Arrestor

What metal was the flame arrestor made of for the round air cleaner cars in early '69? The repros appear to be stainless (or perhaps aluminum) but I have seen brass flame arrestors installed. Mine was missing when I bought the car.

The flame arrestor screen was DEFINITELY NOT brass or aluminum nor was it zinc plated steel. I believe it was stainless steel.

Believe it's stainless -- no magnet pull at top of screen, increasing attraction as magnet approaches the steel base ring. GM is stamped on opposing sides of base. There are four 3/16" dia. dimples in the screen at the top.
