    C-1 Rear crossmember

Noticed that Corvette Central has listed rear crossmember for 53-57 and 61-62 as one part number and 58-60 another part number. Anyone know the difference? Thanks in advance.

yes... one has extra holes for the rear bumper brackets.. I just bought one last week for my 1960 it is very heavy duty stuff. it comes as raw metal so you will have to clean it with a metal cleaner to remove the machine oil and paint it.

Do you know if the rivets that holds the rear crossmember in place go in from the top or bottom?

I ordered one for my 58 but it only has 7 holes and my old one had 9 holes. Do you know how many holes it suppose to have?

I believe the head of the rivet is on the bottom. That's the way I did mine. I used acetylene torch and a home make bucking tool to set the rivets. Picture attached.

See Al's reply for number of holes. The head faces down toward the pavement. GM replacement parts decades ago superceeded the earlier piece with the '58 up piece.

Thanks for the picture. I had to drill the holes on each end near the leaf spring brackets. Not sure why the new one didn't come with holes already drilled.
