    Door Weatherstripping Termination Screw

I am replacing the door weatherstripping on my '62 and that end of the main weatherstrip that terminates near the door handle has two mechanical attachment points. One mechanical point consists of a philips headed bolt that goes through the chrome end cap, through the weatherstrip and attaches to a extended square nut. The other mechanical attachment is a screw that goes through the weatherstrip and attaches to the under side of the door body. My question is what kind of screw is used in that second mechanical attachment? Thanks for your help.

James, I don't see any attachment screw on the underside of the door on my original #0029. Itappears to be all glued on the underside. Where do you think that a screw is holding the underside? Can you post a picture & then I will check mine again.

      Re: Door Weatherstripping Termination Screw

Thanks John for the reply. In looking at the AIM drawing of the door weatherstripping, it shows a philips headed bolt going down through the top of the window end cap, through the weatherstrip, and attaching to a extended nut (square base). It also shows a screw coming up from the bottom going through the weatherstrip and attaching to the door body. Also the replacement weatherstrip had molded indentations for both the attachments. So, I pretty much assumed that these mechanical attachments were used inconjunction with the adhesive.

I think I answered my own question when I looked at the package of parts that I ordered with the weatherstripping. There were two philips screws in the package, I'm assuming one goes into the clip holding the weatherstrip in place at the curve in the door and the other is the screw that attaches the end of the weatherstrip to the door body from the bottom. In any case, thats how I used the two screws that were a part of the package. I think my question has been answered. Thanks again for your interest. Jim K.

I'm about to weatherstrip the doors on my '62. The old weatherstripping was removed by the paint shop, so the AIM is my only reference. Any close-up photos of key areas would be appreciated...Ed

Ed. My weatherstripping project went fairly well...I suprised myself. The only tough areas I had is near the bottom of the pillar where the pillar ends and the door body starts. At this point the main weatherstrip goes across this joint and it is also the junction point with the auxiliary weatherstrip...a lot going on at that corner. The only other area that I had some adhesion problems was where the main makes the big arc on the rear of the door near the place where the metal clip goes. I'm not sure I know how to get pictures up on this forum, but I'll see if I can get something to you in the next couple days. Jim K.

There is a screw or plug of some sort under the door in the middle but the weatherstrip is over it and I don't want to tear, since this is original. Also other pics.

              Jim,
You're right on. Earlier 62's didn't have the one screw and clip below the door post. All had the additional screw holding the weatherstrip to the underside fiberglass under the door end cap.

Thanks Jim for the photos. Great detail. I was told you can expect the doors to close hard until the new weatherstripping seats in. Did you have that experience?...Ed

Ed, you heard correctly. The door is a little harder to shut...but it does shut. On my car it appears that one of the pinch points is where the auxiliary meets the main. Good luck with your project! Jim One side note...There are three metal clips that screw to door post and penetrate the weatherstrip to hold it in place (there are also three wires that fit into the clips that penetrate the weatherstrip). I found the process of putting these clips in place went a lot easier when you made small cuts in the weatherstrip first with an exact-o knife before you try to push the clips into the weatherswtrip.
