    Headlight Actuator

While attempting to adjust the headlight actuating rod clevis position on my 1970 coupe, I snapped off the clevis from the rod. Is it possible to replace the rod without replacing the entire actuator? If that is not possible, are any of the reproductions worth the money?

    Thanks,
    Gene

    Re: Headlight Actuator

There's a thread on this by me on May 2 where my actuator rod broke. There is the name of a man who fixes them but when I called he was booked until July, so I bought a repo from Corvette Central. It works fine. Mine is a 68 so it is the coffee can size. I'll find the name and add it to this post in a minute.

    HERE IT IS:
You could try Bob Demmel who frequents the Tech Board and advertises in the Driveline. He repired/restored my pie pan style and I was very pleased with his work.

      Thanks, Rich.
I made a quick run through the Driveline with no luck. I will try again later when I have more time.

I think I found his number by doing a Google search on his name.

            Bob

This is Rich Giannotti. I got the PM you sent to Gene.

Gene, if you did not get it, I will forward it to you...in fact, I'll try to do that now.

Glad you hooked up. I will probably send my original to Bob to get fixed, now that the pressure is off. I can't stand to have anything broken on the car. It's a personality disorder

This board is a great resource. I've got so much help here.

Did the rod break or the clevis? The rod is steel. If I recall correctly, the clevis is cast aluminum. The actuators are still available from GM under GM #5638541, LH, and 5638542, RH. If I recall correctly, there might be a minor difference from the originals relating to the configuration of the vacuum nipples.

The clevis is no longer available from GM.
