    63 Spare Tire Tub

Can someone post some pics of the difference in the 63 tire tubs (or give a great explanation) versus the later units? In advance, thanks for your consideration.

Tim, The difference is the earlier cars before March sometime the lower lip of the tub is about is about 3/8 inch, And later cars (late 63 and 64 up) it was about 1 inch.

I've seen late April cars with the early style tub. I'm not sure when the switch to the new style was.

you can make an early one out of a late one real easy, the other way around is much harder

Doug, you are correct on the tub; however the lid "V" bar is unique to a '63.

              Gentlemen,

Not only physical differences with the lip and cover but the composition of the 63 was quite different from the later spare tire tubs. The 63 had a definite black apperance with distinct white fiberglass strands closer to the surface. Very similar to the outer heater box cover. Don't know how long or if there was a change in composition later in the year but all original 63's I have ever seen had the darker fiberglass material.
