Inner fender well flap installation for a 1966

How many staples were used per flap? Placement of the staples. Were staples crimped on the engine or fender well side?
Any suggestions on how to crimp the stainless steel staples that are supplied ie tool to use? Thanks for any help.

Doug see your AIM, try section 11-13 sheet A2.00 (that's the 64 page) That gives you a ball park on number & placement.
Remember to put staples in from engine side and clinch in the wheel well area. Toss the stainless staples - not original, but worst yet very hard to clinch. Do a search on subject since other members have come up with methods to clinch (its a PITA)
    Remember they get painted blackout.

      Douglas,
I finished mine about 3 weeks ago but had the old inner fenders to go by.

I threw away all the provided staples away because they were not correct, BUT I did use SS wire and made my own staples.

The wire was .041 SS safety wire used on aircraft. It was about .006 les diameter than the ridged steel staples and easy to bend.

I drilled 2 holes in a flat piece of metal as a drilling referance to get the holes right. sloppy seemed to be the way they were done.

        Doug -

I've always made my own staples from 16-ga. steel wire (hardware store blister-pack item).

Doug, When you get the staple thru the holes, use a needle nose pliers and grip the staple leg at the point and twist it into the configuration it was originally. I find with a bit of practice it actually become quite easy and fast.

Don't forget to paint the staples since they were installed before engine bay blackout.
