Just disassembled windshield with original windshield gasket and would like to reuse it as it has the original ribs on the inside which are not made that way in reproduction. The problem is it is as stiff as a board. Anyone know of a process or product that would soften this gasket? I have used ruglide but this would take months. Thanks in advance P.S. Does anyone make the correct gasket with the ribs?

Re: C-1 windshield weatherstripping
Jerry. I hope all is well with you. It has been a while. I am not aware of anything that will put that flexibility back into your original weather strip. Although I reproduce the logo'd 53-58 body seals, I also looked into reproducing the windshield ws with the original beads, but it was just too expensive to have a correct die cut just for this purpose. The manufacturer also wanted a minimum order that was unreasonable, so I am not aware of anyone making a correct windshield seal.

Repro gasket was a 2 point deduct at Lone Star Regional last fall. The next step after "stiff as a board" is cracking and pieces breaking off. I don't believe that there is any product on the market today that can restore aged, hardened rubber gasket material.- Top
