C1 help- wcfb choke coil help

I need some help with a 59 choke coil, I am rebuilding A WCFB carb. and the choke was screwed up, I am looking at some parts for it on corvette centrals web site and was wondering is the choke coil suppose to be a metal plate with the coil spring attached? As it is now there is only the spring which does not attach correctly,It just floats on the housing. thanks for your help Ed

Sounds like you are missing the metal support plate it attaches to. Luckily, it is available repro if you need it.

Dan, I believe that you maybe correct, The Corvette Central web site shows a plate with spring attached. could you take a peak at it on there website and let me know what you think. the reason I ask this there is just a flat steel plate there also, Kind of like the AFB carb set-up on my 63 which the spring attachs to the black housing. Thanks for your help.

Ed;The choke on your WCFB should be like that on your AFB. The main exception may be the housing and cover if the hot air tube connects to the housing, instead of the cover as on your AFB. The choke coil and the plate it attaches to should be the same. That plate should not be confused with the thin metal plate within the choke that acts as a sort of heat shield. The one the coil attaches to is more of a soft metal thicker plate (cast) that also has three spring wires around it's perimeter that holds it within the cover - sort of snaps in. Some times you see the coil attached to the center split stud or boss part of the plate which is then pinched onto the coil to hold it in place and to make good thermal contact or, in the case of some electric choke covers, epoxied in place. The parts available from various vendors may be individual or assembled so you need to know what you are getting. Read the fine print descriptions so you get what you want/need the first time. From my experience, few of the replacement thermal springs will allow the choke to adjust according to spec. i.e. "Index" or "one notch lean", etc. So, you may have to play around with them a bit.Stu Fox
