As I remember from last year on my 62. Whenever working around fuel have a fire ext. at the standby. Use an LED light. 1) Place front end of car on ramps & chalk rear wheel, 2) #1 cyl at TDC, 3) Remove the bolt from the front of the block right around the corner from the fuelpump. Get a bolt (1 1/2" long of the same thread size. Insert in the same hole and snug it against the pushrod that is inside the motor. The pushrod pushes on the plunger arm of the fuelpump. 4) Obtain a small cork or rubber plug to plug up the fuel line when you disconnect it from the rubber fuel line that is threaded into the fuel pump. The fuel will gravity flow out if you don't plug the line, ie. drain the the entire tank. Have a small catch bucket just in case. 5) Once that line is disconnected you can remove the rubber threaded line. 6) Disconnect the fuel line from pump to carb. 7)Remove the 2 bolts holding the fuelpump to the motor. Boxend wrench works best. Mark orientation of the fittings. Rebuild/replace the pump. Reassemble in reverse order. Hope I didn't forget anything.. Good luck!

Great info on the pump change John. I recently did a fuel pump change on my 1968. I used a helper to bump the starter after the fuel pump was removed to secure the fuel pump rod up into the block. After putting a finger on the end of the fuel pump rod I backed off the bolt screwed into the front of the block. Bumping the starter over can be dangerous, so remove the coil wire to prevent any start up. With the fuel pump rod retracted secure its position with the bolt installed at the front of the engine. After installing the fuel pump, don't forget to remove the longer bolt and install the shorter bolt that was removed. Caution in not letting the fuel pump rod slide down, it can happen. Moving it back up is another experience you don't want.
