What's the going price for installing '63 seat covers?

Seat frames disassembled, blasted and painted and delivered to upholstery shop in that condition with good used foam buns. Picked up with backs and bottoms reassembled with no hardware. What should it cost?

Give Al Knock a call, they are reasonable and do excellent seat covering.

Bruce, I'm very familiar with Al Knock and have used his products for over 25 yrs, and have also had him install covers at NCRS Kissimmee. What I'm interested in is the going rates that local upholstery shops are charging for the sake of comparison with local installers.

        Norris,
I had a local guy install the seat covers for my 65. He did an emergency sort of repair on another car for us last year and
I was really happy with the job. He charged me $375 to install the new covers, buns, etc. I almost fell over..
I guess I should have had him quote but he was really good to us last year. Next time, back to doing it myself

As a comparison for my 1965 Corvette, I just had new Al Knoch seat covers, seat buns and complete installation kit hardware installed on my refurbished seat frames and it cost me $400.00. This was in the Kansas City, MO. metro area.

          Thanks,

Hi...what I did was talk to my local vette restoration shop and they gave me contact info for a local guy that does classic car interior work only; seats and carperts, etc. The vette shop would only add a % to his work. He was great as that is what he does for a living with a focus on classic cars. So you can check locally and get pricing. I don't recall but it was very inexpensive for a proffesional and excellent job. Something like $40-$50/hr or maybe less, was 3 years ago. Maybe $25/hr. I don't recall but, I remember it was a great deal and better than the $90-$110/hr shop cost. Was is Mesa, AZ...Don

I had Knoch install the seat covers on my 63 with new foam..Big Mistake, my head hits the headliner. Why can't repro parts be a little like the original stuff.

Just had my 66 seats done, I glassbeaded and painted the seat frames. I provided everything new (covers, buns, springs, install kit, preformed seat wires, burlap with wire sewn in, new seat backs and all hardware) and rechromed the original hockey sticks and adjustment handles. My local guy near Pittsburgh PA charged 250.00 which I thought was cheap and gave him 300.00, I have 2000.00 in just doing the seats, amazing since my 67 Camaro whole interior cost me 3000.00 back in 1992.

You guys got bargains. Last month I took frames (blasted and painted) plus new foams and covers (Corvette Central as I recall) to a local guy who was supposed to be "good and cheap". He put both seats together but I attached all hardware. The bill was $600 as I recall (I'm traveling and don't have my check book with me). I'm pleased with the results if not with the price now that I see what others paid. The car is a '64.

Norris, I recently did a complete resto. on my 63, And there was a lot of first time things I Did it all including seat covers and convertible top, I would say that the 63 seat cover install over-all is a pretty easy weekend project, I did have the seat frame blasted and painted already. I purchased a couple of tools with the install kit. and watched a video on corvette americas web site so you'll get the basic idea.

By the way the going rate is about 100. dollars a hour at my local upholstery shop.

Norris: I had new covers installed in Dec at Norwalk, OH. Was quoted $250, I supplied new Al Knoch covers and backs. I had him fix my seat back latch system so the bill ended up being around $350. This was on a 67. He reused the buns. The work was excellent and I was happy with the price. Total cost with all parts and labor was about a grand.
