    Vin and Trim Tag

I inspected a midyear recently and it appears that the VIN and trim tags were removed to finish the mounting bar that the tags are riveted to. Both tags look original but there are some signs that the tags were reinstalled. What is the judging ruling on this? Is a car relegated to second flight if there is evidence that the trim and Vin tags were removed and reinstalled?

    Dave,
A first thought are the original tags as presented the original tags for this car or donated from another car.......

Or look at it another way, donated body with numbered parts from different car or cars.....

I guess the possibilities could be endless.

Dave, I agree with Gene, how do you know that those are the original tags? Post some high quality pictures. Some people on this board have the ability and knowledge to give you some good observations, even from a photo.

I think that if a tag is determinied to be a fake the car may be banned from judging, but I'm not sure about the circumstances for this.

I bheleive there was a similar thread a week or so ago that Roy Sinor expounded on. It was pretty clear, if not pretty for the owner.

          Dave,
I have to say that these days getting donations from a car that is so rare would be less possible.

I don't think people are removing tags and selling them like they did when theft was a business with these years ago.

Getting them off wrecked vettes also seems rare as we fix the wrecks now.

I took tags off back in the day on OTHER cars to properly paint them and thought that was the way to do the job properly.

I still do on aircraft when I paint and my 57 chev convert has them in a envelope.

I really think there are more honest vette people than crooks, but then there are those that don't care about anything but $$$ out there and will do any thing for a buck.

Can't seem to find vettes in the bone yard like I did rears ago so where are all these tags coming from?

Are we putting repo tags on and selling the old? Maybe the trim but why the vin?

Remember folks if the tag is a 65 it was held on with either a plain old readily available pop rivet. Then later on in the year (I don't know when) the rivets were rosette type.
