- The air cleaner to valve cover vent hose clamps are identified in the AIM as GM part # 9423581. These are tower clamps but I have not been able to find details on their manufacturer, size, finish or markings. Curiously, they have a different part number that the PVC hose clamps.
- The power steering return line clamp is identified in the AIM as GM part # 9420534 or OPT 9424894. I think this is a type-D clamp but I have not been able to find details on their manufacturer, size, finish or markings.

Re: '69 L36 Clamp Mysteries
The Power steering return hose clamp and tool look like this has been posted before. I think the hose size was 3/8" but that is from memory which has failed at times added original hose and clamp. images.jpgA-2000-2.jpg Paul 18046PS hoses 005.jpgPS hoses 008.jpg- Top

Re: '69 L36 Clamp Mysteries
Paul,
I read the thread from February 2010 but I saw no indication that the crimp type clamp was used prior to 1970. Also none of the part numbers mentioned in that thread match the numbers in the '69 AIM. The '69 AIM N40 option pages make no mention of crimping/clamping instructions and in fact provide a torque specification of 12 - 18 lbs/in as if tightening a screw.
Thanx,

Re: '69 L36 Clamp Mysteries
Sorry I showed for a 1971 here is a link that shows basic variations for SAE standard clamps. Also the bypass hose on big blocks was a "D" type clamp.

Re: '69 L36 Clamp Mysteries
I think the power steering return line hose clamp was a small type-D clamp for '69. I see basically two types represented by various sources as the "correct" clamp (caveat emptor). The first picture is what I refer to as the "open" version because it has open slots around the circumference of the band. The second is what I refer to as the "closed" type because the band is solid all the way around. I have no idea what the screw and nut should look like. Any help identifying the correct clamp would be appreciated.

I'll check on my friend's early 1969 when I get a chance. His car is an original power steering car. However, I do not know if this clamp is still original. He had some engine repair work done many years ago which would have required removing the pump. In fact, it's one of the few times that any work was ever done to the car. Often times, things like clamps are replaced when parts are re-installed. If the clamp was the crimped type, it would obviously have been replaced. However, if it was the type D, it might have been re-used and it's very doubtful that a type D would have been used as a replacement. So, if it is a type D, it will most likely be original.
I have also confirmed that the specified original clamps, GM #9420534 or 9424894, were never available in SERVICE.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: '69 L36 Clamp Mysteries
The originals are still in place on my 69 L36.
hose2.jpghose.jpg
Clamps are Wittek 1 1/2 and are dated 4-68. They are both identical and have no other markings.
The 90 degree piece has no markings on it and is painted a semi gloss black.
The hose is marked GM and 3919891 on two lines and has a stamped A, and on the reverse has a yellow stripe and EB78C91 and D0505 9.
Hope this helps.

Re: '69 L36 Clamp Mysteries
Ah Ha! Just as I suspected - the air cleaner vent hose clamps are the same as the PVC hose clamps.
Thanx Gary, that's all very helpful information and the pictures are great too. :-)'69 Blue/Blue L36 Vert w/ 4-Spd

Re: '69 L36 Clamp Mysteries
The clamp in the photos below was removed from an early 1969 Corvette supply tank stamped "3016340" dated "68H" that I bought at a swap meet last Fall in CT. The cap was even an original RC-26 cap w/large "ears". The part number of the clamp listed in the 1969 AIM (UPC 11-13, sheet B6) is 9420534 and 9424894 OPT. The clamp is stamped "WITTEK MFG. CO." and "CHICAGO U.S.A." as best as I can tell in very small letters along with a larger number "2". It appears to be original equipment. The RC-26 cap was definitely original.
Obviously the 9420534/9424894 clamp was used in other locations. I guess this clamp was used by the Ford Motor Company as well "back in the day" as shown on the referenced Ebay auction.

Re: '69 L36 Clamp Mysteries
Thanx Dave. UPC N40-13, sheet A2 confirms this clamp (9420534 and 9424894 OPT) was also used at the power steering pump. I think these correspond to Wittek #2 and Wittek #23 clamps.'69 Blue/Blue L36 Vert w/ 4-Spd
