    Reproduction Smog Tubes

When it comes to restoration, I have a strong bias towards original parts over reproduction except in a few cases such as ignition parts such as the coil or spark plug wires. Smog tubes is one of those parts where it is tough to find originals that aren't damaged/corroded due to the extreme conditions and their fragility and when I do find originals, they're over-the-top expensive. It's hard to justify so much money for a few points - especially when the car has so many other needs. I have managed to find really nice original parts for the entire smog system except for the manifold tubes. I'm leaning towards reproduction smog tubes but most of the reproductions I have seen are junk with crimps where they should be tapered. However, I found these:

I would appreciate comments on the configuration and finish of these reproductions.

    Thanx

They look good to me. Are they absolutely perfect with respect to ever nuance of original detail? That I could not tell you. From what I can see, though, they look good.

David Crane usually does a pretty good job with his reproductions (except when he just buys from another source that doesn't do such a good job with theirs). I think he does/used to carry a 68-74 big block smog pump bracket that is/was, in my opinion, an atrocity. It looked good but the dimensions were off and it did not fit properly.

Same tubes are available from Keen and they WILL deliver them. Suggest you check the archives on this forum before you buy anything from Crane

Yes, that can be a problem with David; I've experienced it once myself. However, it looks like he has 100% positive feedback on eBay so he must be careful with shipping those sales.

Paragon has them for $180 so he has a good price.

              Hi Floyd
I had a pair of repops and I didn't like them.
Guy needed them for non judging. Sold them for 150.00 and they were new. I may have another pair that I bought by mistake but have to look.
I do have originals and I prefer them as you can see them on the car. Internal stuff like cams or lifters you can't see then buy aftermarket.
              My 2 cents worth.
