Hood release handle on my 1957

The hood release handle has come off.

How can I reattach it so that it does not come off in my hand?

You could drill and tap ther handle and put in a small allen drive set screw, did this 20 years ago on my 62 and it is still ok.
JB Weld is another option,
Or you might be able to tap the hole in the handle and thread the rod and assemble them.

Try a two part epoxy. Done it twice and never had a problem.
