    1964 L75 Alternator Pulley ID

Which alternator pulley is correct for a 1964 Corvette equipped with the L75 engine. I've changed it once because I was told at a chapter meet that the picture of the pulley on the left is incorrect but the pictures I've found in Noland Adams' book proves to it to be correct. The picture on the right was what I was sold from a well known Corvette parts vendor as being the correct one. I beleive the pulley on the right is for a Corvette equipped with a base engine?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    James------

I believe the pulley on the left is correct. It appears to be a GM #3844101 (or, a GM #3871241). If it's 2-13/16" OD, the "official" GM spec, that would help confirm it.

By the way, the 1964 base engine and L-75 used the same alternator pulley. However, either used a different pulley if the car was also C-60-equipped.

      Joe,

Thanks for the response. The measurements that I took of the OD of the pulley on the left is 2-13/16".

I am wondering if the pulley on the right is the one for the C60 equipped base or L75 engine?

According to my research notes (06/08/1992) the 3844101 pulley (2 13/16" dia. or 2.81") was used on 1964 Corvette (250 & 300 HP exc. AC).
        The 3871241 pulley (2 53/64" dia. or 2.83") was on the 1965. Both 1964 & 1965 models used the same WP pulley # 3790356, CS pulley # 3744043, and fan belt # 3847701 (3/8" - 55 1/4").

The 1964 H.P. w/AC models used alt. pulley # 3848023 (3 3/64" dia. or 3.05") which was replaced with GM # 3846180 (3 3/64" dia. ) in October 1964 as per Chevrolet Parts History (over the counter parts).
