    clutch return spring

I recently rebuilt my T-10 and on re-installation and adjusting free play the pedal does not come all the way to the rubber stop. I can reach down and bring it up by hand, could my return spring be weak? The clutch engages OK and shifts smoothly, any suggestions would be appreciated.
It is a 1962 tree finger clutch and drives good. The pedal moves about 2'' before any resistance.

Do you have the gorilla spring that attaches to the frame? Did you install clutch rod for normal travel or the shorter race travel? I do not have the gorilla spring and I had to put a spring on to get the pedal to stay up, otherwise it will wear out the throwout bearing. I put one from the end of the clutch rod to the firewall bracket.

      Terry,
I never changed to the quick shift option. I never took the clutch assembly off the flywheel as it was replaced the year before. All that was done to the trans was new synchro's and seals to address leaks. After inspecting throughout bearing and fork, lubed and re-installed trans. After talking to numerous friends , they all said to change the ( GORILLA) spring. If I had any problems with shifting I would expect pressure plate ,but everything shifts fine. After depressing the clutch and releasing it only comes halfway back up,I then reach down and pull pedal back to the stop.
Thank you for your reply, Jerry

Sounds as if you have too much free play in the assembly - adjust that out and see if the pedal returs as it should.

There is a transition point in the gorilla spring travel where it goes from you having to push it to it helping you to push. It sounds like you are hanging up at that point. My first thought is high friction between the throw-out bearing and the trans. input. The pressure plate doesn't have enough force to overcome the friction (the gorilla spring is at neutral).

            Re: clutch return spring

Have taken off the inspection pan and removed adjusting rod then moved the clutch fork. There seems like a rocking motion of the fork on the throughout bearing, after moving the fork the ball stud was halfway out of pocket in the fork. Could the fork retainer clip spring not be holding it tightly on the ball stud causing to much play and the rocking? This seem like it could be the reason for the two plus inches of pedal movement before any resistance and not returning the pedal to the stop. If this is the case I will have to take the trans back out to change it and a new bearing. Anyone with there thoughts and input please chime in.
            Thanks again
            Jerry

Is the fork positioned on bearing correctly

Yes, it is correct but the end where the clip holds the ball stud in place is loose and allows it to move more than I think it should.you can see where the ball should rest 1/2'' off where the pocket is. I have a month before the Michigan chapter meet, so I'll start( wrenchen ).
                Thanks everyone,
                Jerry
