    1982-84 Computer

The computer on my 1982 is starting to act up. This is not big surprise given its age and being installed nexet to the battery. Does anyone know a source for a new one and/or rebuild? I think it is the same computer as the 1984.

    Thanks

    Mike

Mike, Why do you think you need a computer?I have not seen the Battery or age cause a issue with the computer if you have the original computer still in the car your best to stick with it. If your having trouble with the check engine light being on you should check for trouble codes, generally if the light is on there may be drivebilty concerns,And there will be codes stored in the computers memory.

Mike I do not know if it will work on your 82 to check why a check engine light is illuminated, however on my 1985 when I first got it I checked codes using only a paper clip and read the blinking light codes. Later was able to buy a AC Delco coin type looking thing that had two prongs on it to use instead of a paper clip to read the flashing light code.

The 1982 ECM is uniquely applicable to 1982 Corvettes. The original part number was GM #1225550. You can obtain a remanufactured unit to this day from GM under GM #19143616, aka Delco #218-12250. About 125 bucks with a core charge of about 100 bucks.
