    65 Valve Covers

How can I find out what type of valve covers came from the factory in 1965 on 327 carb. with 4 speed, I've seen some with red/orange steel and others with aluminum. Which is correct?

The lower horsepower motors (250, 300) came with orange, stamped steel valve covers. The 350, 365 and 375 horse motors came with aluminum valve covers.

        Hi Michael,

I believe there is also some differences in the aluminum ones. i cannot remember, but some years had a visible line running through the "O" from a mold defect.

If you are looking to have the car judged you may want to check this before purchasing a set.

And, not all the stamped steel covers look alike. Check the area just outside the ends of the rectangle that holds the 327 sticker (or decal). The discussion archives probably holds some details that I cannot remember at the moment...

The line is from where the mold was broken and then repaired. I don't remember whether this was in late 65 or in 66, but it is in the archives.

The defect actually began during the 66 model year. 65 should not show the casting flaw.
