Parking lamps and headlight wire routing for 1957

When working on my 57 rewiring I noticed the parking lamp lead wires and the headlight lead wires are shoved through a small slit at the joint and not through a gromment or other protective hole. That seems odd. Does anyone know if there is supposed to be an actual hole and grommet for these leadwires? Your help is appreciated as usual.

Don't have my car where I can check this for you, but the AIM, Sect 12, Sheet 6, views A & B, shows a grommet 3708181 where the harness passes through the body panel. I think that would have to be through the inner fender panel just behind the radiator bulkhead. Maybe someone else who has a car available will chime in to confirm or correct.

      Hi Ted,
Headlight & parking lamp cables run down alongside the radiator support & inner fender into wheel well.
Each cable is supported on seperate clips in the wheel well on route to light housing.
I will try to post pictures from my bowtie car

Thanks for the pictures. Very helpful. I will try to route that way. Also appreciate the horn relay photo as I had questions on how that mounted and your picture answers that. Double helpful!

          Hi Ted
Be aware that the mounting location for the horn relay really depends on the vin # of your car. Cars with a vin # above 2700 mount facing forward. 56 and early 57s mount facing up. Please check the new 5th edition of you judging manual on page 73.

            Hi Dave,
Very intersting reply from you. My car is Vin 1795. The holes in the fender to mount the relay are horizontal so the terminals are either up or down. The new wiring harness seems to favor a facing down. I will have to go back to facing up. Thanks again.
