    Body Rotisserie

    Hi all,

I'm in the market for a body rotisserie stand. I see one at Northern Tools for about a grand that looks pretty good. Any recommendations for something better before I lay down the cash?

    Thanks,

    Bob

    Bob,

I have looked at AutoTwirler a couple of times and been impressed as they have a Corvette Subframe Kit. Anyone can sell a couple of engine stands to spin a body but the attachment to your body is the important part. You need a subframe kit that has the integrity so you can do major body work and be able to take it off the rotating mechanism and roll it around.
Check out AutoTwirler at: www.autotwirler.com or call 1 888 290-2991 They are located in Gosport, IN.

I've seen this one at the Corvette shows, and if/when I need one it's the one I would buy:

        Guys,
I have the auto twiller and modified it to work from the sides.

There was NO way it would work from the front to back without MAJOR mods that I thought were unsafe and a good cause to crack fiberglass.

I use it on the sides with a small mod that lifts the car from 4 points, 2 under the doors in front and 2 behind the doors, all on the metal.

It is handy to lift on & off the frame and to get under body work.

I lift the body off the frame and put it on a rolling dolly for all other work and put my doors on each half of the rotators (with a special jig) to paint & rotate them for inside work. The doors are mounted flat and fully rotate.

All in all I am satisfied with what it does but "rotate" NO.

If you want a rotisserie that won't flex/wooble etc. check out Whirly-Jig. Built much heavier than the one posted earlier. Has multiple stops sprocket on turret for working at any angle, fully adjustable for multiple types of bodies. Rolls easily on large casters. Note the front to back tubes to keep the rotisserie ends square to each other. Also there is no center tube causing possible interference when rotating. Can be moved around with a hydraulic jack under one end without flexing, but yet sits on the floor to prevent unwanted movement during use.

            Steve,
Looks great but still no place to grab the vette.

I thought they had a special adapter to use with Corvette bodies?
When they have it at Bloomington I've seen it rotate without any issues.

                Dom,
I imagine that a "custom adapter" would be required with any rotisserie. We had to make adapters to attach the 2 Mopars to the rotisserie.

I'd suggest a 2X2 tubing that attaches to the 4 cage frame mount points and then pick up the rear mounts and the points at the core support. A Corvette body weighs under 1000# so that isn't a problem.
