Just the other day many of us were discussing the differences between original, service replacement, and reproduction (Trim Parts) front and rear emblems. I personally had no idea that there were so many differences! If you find an NOS emblem with the gold letter than congratulations, you are ahead of the game! But for the largest majority of us, we have to deal with reproductions and Trim Parts seems to have the nicest out there and rule the industry. Of course, there are a decent supply of service replacements (silver) out there although they are getting more expensive and are also getting harder to find.
If you read Joe Maulsby's post, he obviously has done alot of research on emblems and the best way to take a NOS service replacement, remove all of the silver, and replace it with gold. Well, I have spent (and lost) a ton of money looking for and buying what I thought was the best part or service for the 58' Big Brake car (for those of you who recognize me by my posts, you know that I'm very proud of this car because that is all I talk about, sorry for that)! Anyway, I thought I would buy a set of his emblems. First off, when I looked at the back side of the NOS versus the repro, I had no idea that there were so many differences! The NOS are SO MORE CRISP and detailed, unbelievable differences! Second and most important, Joe's work is beautiful! The gold is bright, and the rest of the coloring and detail are 1st. class! Joe does all of this by hand and I can't imagine how much time and pride that he puts into each emblem. Although they aren't quite as perfect as you would expect by a machine process, I would say they are darn close! I can't wait to get these on the 58', it deserves the best!!!
