I got a deduct for a repro on my '62. The judge removed the ashtray from the console, and wanted to see "AAC" stamped on the side. The originals do have that. The repros don't. But, now that I think about it, I'm not sure the judge was supposed to remove the ashtray from the console. I didn't object at the time because I was busy with other things.

The judge is not supposed to remove anything. He can request that the owner remove it.

It may be that the judge asked me to do it. I forget now.

But I thought that there were very few items that were judged when the part had to be removed. And I thought that when the part had to be removed to be judged that the JG was clear on that. The JG doesn't say anything about removing the ashtray for inspection. Why pick on the ashtray? There's lots of parts on these cars that could be judged some more if they were removed. Where do you draw the line?

I know you take the air cleaner off; the distributor shield off; and, the trunk mat out. But I thought that was all.

              Christopher,

56-7 JM 5th Edition is very clear on the AAC logo and retaining clips. Original ashtrays measure 1.75 inches deep.

Owner's are asked to remove the jack, lug wrench, jack handle and spare tire for Judging.

Why not judge it? Why do we have our cars judged at all? I say it is because we want them correct. I personally get miffed if after I go to all the trouble and cost of having my car judged, if the judges don't take the necessary time to do it right.
