I didn't realize the engines had gotten so low powered and doggy by then. 255 HP?

255 net - the 370 of 1970 was gross HP rating.
1971's motor at 330 HP was gross and was about the same motor as 255.
But yes, they had decreased in power.

LT-1 330hp (Gross) - 275hp (Net, 16.5% loss) - 257hp (Net, 22% loss to align with others)
Base 270hp (Gross) - 210hp (Net, 22% loss)
