Plant Shut down in October 62 ?

    November not October.

In November of 1962 there were a few weeks where there were very few cars built. I have copies of hundreds of 63 trim tags and have never seen one for week three or four. I am not saying they do not exist, but if they do there were very few cars built.

I own a car that was built on Thursday of week two (November of 1962). Just a few hundred vin numbers later is week five car. And 195 on the body number. Does anybody know exactly what happened for those few weeks in October of 1962.

For those that do not know or have forgotten, in 63 they gave us the week we were built only. no days.
    Thank,
    M

Is that around the time they had the run of Z06's, or was it earlier. Maybe somebody with a Z06 can chime in, or someone who has a list of serial numbers. 2 weeks should be at least a couple hundred cars.

      Monte,

You are correct. There was a "work stoppage" (not a strike) in late November 1962 at the St Louis Corvette plant. I don't know exactly how long it lasted but dealers were advised that orders scheduled for late Nov would be produced in early December.
I would guess that the "work stoppage" only lasted a week to 10 days.

That was a local Fisher Body/Chevrolet strike at the passenger/truck plant, which also took down the Corvette plant (same local union for both plants) from November 13th through the 21st.

          Monte,

My 63 coupe is built C2 on the trim tag and serial # 031XX. I don't know the body # as I removed it long ago when I didn't know any better. Maybe your car body # could help me back in to mine.
