C1 Windshield frame and windshield removal

On the road this week but plan on removing the windshield and frame soon. I see a lot of posts about the windshield post breaking which I want to try to avoid. Anyone have a step by step guide on the removal process?

    Cheers

I assume you are talking about the windshield post tabs? If you are taking the windshield assembly off the car as an assembly, I don't see much reason for concern about breaking the tabs unless the assembly has been glued in place with something other that bedding compound and strip caulk. If the windshield post tabs are broken it is normally due to other reasons, convertible top pulling against the windshield. They are realtively easy to repair and a number of folks do the repairs. Mine where broken on my 1960 when I go the car and I sent them to Paul Mazut for repair before I sent them out for re-chrome.

The ST-12 has step by step instructions for removing the windshield assembly.

Typically you will not break a tab removing the windshield assembly.

But removing the nuts that are on the studs that hold the tabs to the car have the potential to make you loose your religion along with some knuckle skin. The only thing worse than removing them is installing them.

I have found that using a 1/4" drive ratchet with a few extensions and a universal joint on a 1/2" socket does the job easily. You might have to break the nut loose with a 3/8" drive but then use the 1/4" ratchet.
Wrap some masking tape on the universal so it does not flop around.
