I do not have the plastic cover for over the collaspible metal mesh on my '67 standard steering column. The previous owner wrapped it up with masking tape and painted it black. Does anybody reproduce this part? I have looked everywhere with no luck.

No, that part isn't reproduced; neither is the column mesh tube and welded bracket with the injected capsule brackets or the steering shafts.- Top

Check the junk yards for a 73-74 MOPAR..... They had the same thing on the column. The photo is of a MOPAR column.Attached Files- Top

Re: 1967 Steering Column Metal Mesh Plastic Cover
I am not particularly familiar with the Mopar mesh cover but I suspect that it will not work. The mesh jackets were used on Gen I energy absorbing GM steering columns for just two years (1967-68). All GM vehicles (except Corvette and Corvair) used a large diameter 2.25 inch diameter mesh jacket. The Corvair/Corvette jackets were 1.5 inch diameter. So the GM plastic mesh covers were two different diameters. Saginaw manufactured Mopar energy absorbing steering columns for several years. I am fairly certain that the Mopar jackets were the same diameter as the GM large diameter jackets.

Jim, Original style Corvette covers are not reproduced as yet. Therefore, if you need a jacket try a MOPAR. The jacket is split on one side so that it will fit a multitude of diameters.....Place the seam on top and you are good to go......- Top

Re: 1967 Steering Column Metal Mesh Plastic Cover
I needed one for a std '67 column last year. This one came from a Mopar product. I used some sticky harness tape to hold it on.
A real nice NCRS guy sold it to me.- Top

Re: 1967 Steering Column Metal Mesh Plastic Cover
Here's some great info in a thread that Jim Shea wrote in the past. (found it at the bottom of this thread page "Similar Threads")
Note that the sleeve was heat sealed in 3 places after installation.
