69 power Steering center Link relay rod

Can someone provide me the correct finish on the center link relay rod for a power steering car. ALSO, IS THIS ITEM JUDGED?

    Thanks

Last question first -- to the extent that the relay rod (PS or manual) can be seen it will be judged.

Finish is as forged -- and PS or not makes no difference. There are some colored bands (paint strips around the relay rod). I believe we have detailed this int eh TIM&JG -- as I expect the finish is also detailed there.

      Phillip,

As Terry made mention, the center link relay rod was forged. In regard to the color of the dabs of paint is concerned, my experience has been that P/S cars usually have a blue dab and non P/S cars that I seen mostly have a white dab of paint, but like everything else especially where Corvettes are involved it would not surprise me to see an additional color.

I also agree with Terry and Ron also the items in the suspension that were forged most had a dark blue to black areas that were from the forging process. This has been seen on many original untouched cars. Here is one example.

Gun cold bluing will get you somewhere close.

Nice photo Paul. There was a long thread a year or so ago in which someone used gun bluing and some other products in an attempt to duplicate the finish -- I think they were working on the rear strut rods IIRC. There were pictures and the end result in the pictures was not too bad. Problem is pictures are a poor substitute for an "in the flesh" viewing.

I believe the dark area is mill scale resulting from hot forging. Frans E(?) could provide a blow by blow description of the manufacturing process, but apparently he is not a member of this forum, and maybe not even NCRS
