    Five-Leaf HD Leaf Spring Clamps

    Hi all,

I have a pair of the 5-leaf HD leaf springs that I want to restore. They have the steel clamps on them to hold the bands. I'm sure I can get them off, but I doubt if they'd be reusable? Are these clamps reproduced? Does anyone have any tips on getting the old clamps off and back on?

    Thanks,

    Bob

Are they different than the clamps used on the non HD leaf springs?

Would it be possible to heat the bent-over pieces with a torch and then use a thin pry bar to open the folded sides? Is there room to insert a thin pry bar? A good machine shop could probably make it happen.

Bob, You need to heat them with a torch and then bend them open. You would do the same to reclose them. A press also helps to get them closed up. I would not take the rivet out.
