IMG_5998.jpgHello all,
I have a question regarding the engine PAD stamping on my 59 Vette. Let me first say that I had the car judged today at Tony's Corvette Shop in Gaithersburg, Maryland and received a solid Top Flight award at 98.6. I am thrilled. What a great experience!
The judges did however spend a great deal of time looking at the PAD stamping which does not have the VIN derivitive stamp (VD). They originally thought it should. Numbers pertinant to the car are:
Engine Casting # 3756519
Engine block cast date: K-28 (Nov 28, 1958)
Engine assembly date: F-I2-0I CQ (Dec 1st, 1958 only 3 days after cast date)
Automobile assembly date for VIN J59S103807: 1/27/59
According to the Judging Manual page 47, VD's were added to the engine pad around mid December 1958 approx VIN 1800. My VIN is 3807 (about 5 or 6 weeks later) and does not have the VD stamping. I've read the VIN Derivitive Stamping section (p-47) a hundred times and still don't get it.
There is absolutely no question that my motor is original to the car given it's history. The judges finally figured it out and didn't deduct anything but I don't get it yet. Can someone assure me that this car SHOULDN'T have the VD? My contention is because the engine was assembled on Dec 1st, 1958, two weeks prior to mid December when they started adding the VD's that mine shouldn't have it. I'm confused. Please help.
Thanks
Wayne
