    What is this side emblem?

I have a set of side emblems that came with my 1960. The AIM calls for part # 3742213. The ones I have have a part number 3767507 and a Logo that is a T over a C inside a triangle (see photo). I have a photo of the back of this emblem as well as the back of a Trim Parts reproduction. The Trim Parts one has the same part number 3767507 and the logo CMD. The other difference is the Trim Parts one is flat on the back, but the other one has a ridge around the outside edges of the flag and the staffs.

Is the part number 3767507 a later service replacement number? Is the one I have a service replacement or just an older reproduction?

GM #3742213 was discontinued in February, 1961 and replaced by GM #3767507.

Here is my delimma, I have a set of the Trim Preproduction (they have the GM part number 3767507 on them. I also have one decent what I think is a GM service replacement with #3767507, but I'm not sure if these could be earlier reproductions. Does anyone know if they were reproduced by anyone else?T

here are some for sell on Ebay that are listed as NOS, but of course they are either service replacements or Reproductions. I was considering buying a set, but if they old reproductions, then I might as well stick with my Trim Parts ones.

Re: What is this side emblem?

Donald, the GM service replacements differ from the originals in a couple of ways. The two posts that go through the fiberglass are thicker and the area where the two flags cross was thickened because it was a weak spot on the originals. If an ebay seller lists emblems as NOS, they should not be repros. If they are described as NOS, they should be originals or service replacements. But, not all ebay items are correctly described.

I wonder if the service replacements judge the same as reproductions? If they do, then I'll just use the reproduction parts I have.

I received zero point deduct with 2 service replacements at Lone Star Regional last fall. If the judges want to be picky, they can tell the difference by feeling the two posts and looking at the area between the flags.

I realized that I did not answer your question. I believe the repros are made to look like the service replacements, not the originals.

If they have the 3767507 part number on them they should be either GM SERVICE pieces or Trim Parts reproductions. No one else could legally emboss that number on the part and, as far as I know, no one has done it illegally.

Thanks Joe, that answers my question. I'm going to buy a set of the ones listed on Ebay. From the pictures, they look just like the one service replacement I have including the logo next to the part number

While I am no expert on C-1 cars, nor do I profess to be one, from what I have seen Trim Parts repro emblems are equal to, or for the most part, better than the GM service replacements.

Dick, I have been happy with the quality of Trim Part products and found them to be very high quality. I was just puzzled how them created their mold for the front/rear emblem for the 58-60. There are definitely differences in the configuration of their emblem and GM originals or service replacements. I would have assume that when they make these GM Licensed emblems they would have used an original to create their mold.

Way back when it was Richard Miller and Custom Mold Design (CMD) they strived to make the most accurate parts available. Trim Parts has pretty much followed his lead. If the back is the only difference, the emblem should judge very well

If you decide to purchase the NOS 507's on E-bay I don't think you will be very happy with what you receive. The 507 service replacements were of VERY poor quality and the paint doesn't even approximate the original color.
Trim Parts are not correct but they are pretty and since most judges have never seen a set of originals they like the pretty!!
