    1960 trunk marking ID

    006.jpg007.jpg

    Hello,
I am going to restore my truck area from a back yard restoration job. I was taking off the paint (which ws not the original) and I un-covered a strong beutiful green factory mark which I assume was the body paint mark. Can someone I.D this code. I think the W stands for White but the other letters I cannot make out. Would that be the cove color?

    Thanks,
    Tim Allen

The paint code is "Ivory" which was used to designate the exterior color. Cove colors were not indicated. The only other marking you will find is "HT" if the car was equipped with a hard top.

"Ivory" was used to designate white.

Duh.......All my eyes could see was a W. Thanks Ed, the word Ivory is clear as day now. I couldn't see the woods for the trees.

Ed, How was the cove color designated? My car has mounting for a hardtop. Where would that marking be.
          Thanks again,
          Tim

              Tim:

If the car came with a hardtop from the factory, the hardtop designation (H/T) would be in the same area you found the "Ivory" marking. My guess is that the H/T crayon mark was there only to indicate that the deck lid would need to be drilled to accept hardtop hardware.

The cove color, if there was to be one, must have been part of the job order. It was not indicated on the car body.

                  Ed -

That's correct - if a given body required a side cove two-tone, it was noted on the daily schedule sheet given to the Paint Shop Superintendent, and was not marked anywhere on the body.
