What's out there now in H or above rating 205 75 R15 now and from where?Black wall or whatever. Can Diamond back find these or do they just put what kind of stripe you want on ones the customer supplies?
    Thanks

I don't think you will find n "H" or above speed-rated tire in that size.

When we do find tires for our older cars they don't provide the performance some of us want. I won't even address the issue of my '57.

I think you can get Goodyear Eagle GT tires in the 255-60-15 size. However, they will be "S" rated. Even those I would not be surprised to find as being 1 to 3 years old when you buy them.

Re: how old is too old for radial tires?

The available tires in the 225/70R-15 are becoming very limited like above mentioned. Also why does a old Corvette need "All Season" tires? We don't drive these cars in the snow?? For these reasons I have actually considered putting on a new set of bias ply Firestone Wide Oval for my '73? Many people go from bias ply to radial, but ever in reverse?

Also I think if you purchased new tires from a tire dealer and told them you want new fresh tires that are not 2-3 old they probably would think that you are a "nut, in effect you are only going along and playing their game. They won't give you fresh tires, but they will tell you how fast your tires expire.

Why do we complain when Restoration Batteries only last two years. Of course we are not happy. Then maybe the retail dealer should put out there that batteries expire in such a short time. Then we could buy into it and stop complaining and asking for refunds.

When tires fail do we complain and ask for refunds?

Just my opinion and of course the price of a set of tires is not worth the life of a child, but that is the whole debate.."how old is too old for radial tires"?.

Might be a good idea to post the where the date is located on modern tires and how to read it.

I don't have the info in front of me at the time and I am sure it's at tirerack.com

So, is there any V rated tire that will fit midyears, anymore? My Pirelli's are getting due for replacement and I would like a V rated tire.

I doubt it. I need 235/70 - 15 for my former police car daily drivers in a V rating, and I have come up dry for the last 6 or 7 months. I guess I will have to quit doing high speed pursuits.
Or I guess I could get the PCM reprogramed to limit my speed from 149 to 103. :-(

Or, you could just bite the bullet and do what is happening very often nowadays by just rest-moding that sucker and putting big wheels on it to get Z rated tires, like this one coming up at Bloomington:

Re: how old is too old for radial tires?

Have you tried Avon? They supplied a V-rated tire in this size for the Bentley Mulsanne Turbo.

Given their pricing you might be able to claim bragging rights that your new tires cost more than your 9C1 is worth.

These are also suitable for a C3. They about about 0.6" (about 2 percent) taller than 225/70s. Speedo error would not be significant, and at worst, the shoulders might slightly rub the frame rails at full steering lock. Seven to eight inch wide wheels are just right for this size.

Why do you need new tires? IIRC your Z-rated Pirelli P4000 Super Touring tires have only been on your car for a few years.

Do you let it bake in the sun all day and store it in a sealed garage at night full of a bunch of ozone producing electric motors?

I'm planning on keeping my sets of P4000s for at least 15 years stored in my dry, dark basement.

They may indeed be worth more than the car, but I will have to pay in Euros from he looks of it. It would appear they only sell motorcycle tyres in the USA & Canada. When I try to find a dealer USA is not one of the options. I may have to get one of the UK members to buy them for me and ship them here. That could be an interesting experience for way too many of us.

Avon sells car tires in the US, but there are not too many distributors or dealers.

                              https://www.universaltire.com/avon/2...hite-wall.html

                              Do some more googling.

Roger Kraus Racing in nothern California sells the Avon CR6ZZ DOT legal racing tire, which has sizes suitable for vintage Corvettes with OE wheels.

The Bentley that I tried to broker last year had the Avon tires on it. I did not realize they were speed rated.
