Hi I had to replace my wiper motor and noticed in the AIM that there was suppose to be a rubber spacer in between the two push rod arms that go to the wiper transmissions. I ordered a new one from LCIS and it arrived with some instructions that it is to fit over the bronze bearing between the two arms. The ID of this thing is the size of a dime and is much larger than I was expecting. Are these on any value being there? I don`t see it fitting anywhere but would like to install while the thing is apart if it serves any real purpose. Has anyone else had any dealing with one of these. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mike I have a 65 Coupe with A/C.

Re: C2 Wiper Push Rod Rubber Spacer
Michael,
I bought one for my 63, and I agree with you observation. I think it's listed in the AIM as spacer but the bushings look like spacers. I don't think I used mine and I have yet to see a picture of a original spacer. There was no such thing on my 67 when I had the wiper motor out and I was the first there. Sorry I can't help more..- Top

Re: C2 Wiper Push Rod Rubber Spacer
Thanks Tim, I see where they may be talking about it goes but the lip is so narrow it won`t stay there. I will play with it a little more and if not I will forget about it and put everything back together. Thanks Again, Mike- Top

I don't know what the vendors are supplying, but the correct spacer is made from fiber or hard rubber, and the hole in it is just large enough to slip the spacer over the motor output shaft - it's about 3/16" thick. Its purpose is to space the two link rods apart on the shaft so they don't interfere with each other when the motor rotates. If you leave the spacer out, you'll have an enormously annoying (and loud) clunk-clunk-clunk, twice per shaft revolution, as the two link rods interfere with each other up there where you can't get at them (especially on an A/C car). Don't leave the spacer out.- Top

Re: C2 Wiper Push Rod Rubber Spacer
Michael:
The space between the wiper links (bushings) did not haveenough clearance to add anything and still attach the retaining clip.
Additionally the dash panel only had three holes drilled andused to attach the motor.!!

Re: C2 Wiper Push Rod Rubber Spacer
I just put the LICorvette spacer between the arms when I installed my WW motor and had the same problem with the size.
The fix was to lube the rubber spacer and squeez the 2 arms together.
The rubber then is forced to expand around the brass bushing.
I used a pliar and some O-ring lube,(anything slippery will work) and then installed the clip while squeezing the arms together.
I rotated the arm and checked to make sure it squeezed evenly and it seemed to have no choice as the clip will not go on unless the rubber expands over the bushing.

Re: C2 Wiper Push Rod Rubber Spacer
Thanks everyone, I had to take the push rod arm off the car and glue the spacer in place. I have not reinstalled so I will post a picture this afternoon. I intend to grease with silicone grease before installing. Mike- Top

Re: C2 Wiper Push Rod Rubber Spacer
The washer goes on the large lip surronding the bronze bearing or sleeve. You have to stretch it just a bit to get it over the edge but it will curl back off as the lip is only half the width of the rubber spacer. One both arms are installed it has both halfs to rest on and will stay there. I suspect over time the spacers became hard and brittle and probably broke up. That may be the reason some of the original cars don`t have on. Thanks for the help. Mike- Top

wiper spacer 3.jpgThe last picture. I put a couple of drops of superglue on the backside of the rubber spacer and let dry overnight then coated with silicone grease before installing. Crude but it did work. Thanks Mike- Top
