Are the repros better than they were? I remember them having lines and numerals that were too thick/bold. Are they right now, or should I try to reuse my old one?

I dont' know about the repros, but the service replacement (NOS) version has 4 tabs that the originals don't have.

Re: 63-67 4-speed indicator on console
Bruce,
The bottom example in Hank's photo (post 3) is not like the one in my '67 console. The top example is closer. Holding my shifter console up to the computer screen images for comparison, the "1" looks right, but it's the easiest. The "2" looks good. The "3" is close, but not quite. The "4" is off. The "R" looks good, so does the shift-pattern.
Overall it looks good without a side-by-side comparison, but if it matters to you, nothing is really like original except original.- Top

Re: 63-67 4-speed indicator on console
If I understand correctly, the GM Service replacement (GM 3823432) with the tabs was the design for 1963 4-speed shifter consoles. To the best of my knowledge, the 1964-67 production 4-speed shift-pattern indicator was never available in Service. Instead, for some reason GM designated the '63 design as Service for all midyears.- Top

Re: 63-67 4-speed indicator on console
If one waits to find an NOS original without the 4 tabs, one is going to be waiting a long time-----like forever. The 64-67 4 speed selector plate, GM #3848293, was never available in SERVICE. Instead, GM supplied the 1963 selector plate, GM #3823432 to SERVICE all 1963-67 4 speed applications. The 1963 application used the tabs whereas 1964 and later did not. The GM #3823432 was discontinued without supercession in 1985.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 63-67 4-speed indicator on console
Neither is correct but they are not junk. That is what is available if you want "new".
The CC version is closer to correct.
If you dont mind some slight scratches keep looking at Carlisle, Pomona,or better yet,
call David Sokolowsky in LA and he probably has over 100 of them and there must be
one nice one in the bunch.- Top

Re: 63-67 4-speed indicator on console
Here's a photo of an original from my 67:

The CC one in Hank's pictures is pretty close. When I redid my console, I had a repro from another vendor. Putting them side by side you could tell the difference in the lineweight and font. So I just left my dinged up original in place.Jerry Fuccillo

Bruce, I am not giving you the opion of a judge that you are asking for. I would like to add to the thread. More that five years ago I had a car judged. The judge said everything looked good on the shift pattern plate except for the grain. So besides the above things mentioned you have to be aware of the grain pattern.- Top
