1963 Only Fender Side Emblem

Is the emblem that I am holding a 1963 only side emblem or are they supposed to be the same as the 1964-1966 side emblems?

Jim, I believe 63/64 have the orange color , I think the color may have changed a few times or the years.

I guess the answer I'm looking for is; are the 1963 emblem cross flag thickness different (thinner) than the 1964 to 1966 emblems? As you can see in the picture the one in my hand has thinner cross flags than the one on the car.

The thin emblems, part number 3792000, were never used on any 63 Corvette. Link below is a discussion about this issue. A 3827158 was used for all 63-65 SB, replaced with a 3872930 for 66. The difference was the orange to red color of the flag for 66.

here's a pair of '158's I have -- forget whether they're off my early '63 FI (# 07055) or not. What's interesting to me is the blue on the lower left is so dark it's almost black.

Nothing like a set of 158's to make a 63 to 65 look correct. Besides what Michael Hanson told you another big difference in the 158's versus the service replacements aka 66 style is the fact that the flag was not black and white but was/is black and "ivory". Creamy ivory look.

The paint used on the real deal 158 is not glossy orange per say but rather a medium to semi gloss.
The two studs are mostly bare. No chrome on them.
Look on the inside of the fender at the two studs.
The studs are 3/4 bare with no chrome.

Besides the '158 and the 930 there is a transition flag in the middle of those two. Really nice flag but still not correct. The first difference is the right side of the flag is painted with pure white paint in lieu of ivory. Then when you look on the back side you typically see all chrome studs.
The blue paint on the 158 is very dark and rich looking. The other two flags do not have the correct blue hue. JD

I agree. Look at the quality of originals. Below is another NOS set. (JD should recognize the emblem on the left) The blue is dark, as mentioned by Wayne Midkiff. I think the orange is a little more glossy than semi gloss.

Interesting; I bought a bunch of these emblems back in the mid 70's by mail order, just to get 2 that were painted right to replace my originals (which I still have). I still have 2 loose ones left that I have in my curio cabinet display of die cast vettes. I looked at those last night and they are the worst examples. One has both part numbers on the back. i.e. "3827158" w/1965 under it on one side , and "3792000" w/ 1966 under it on the other side. The other emblem just has "3792000" on one side w/no year under it (plain). I think I got them from Terry M. as he was practically the only "game" in town then. I'll dig out my originals today to see what they look like.
