The valve for the 1967 StingRay is bigger and looks better so perhaps that one is better? It looks better for sure but it is not the original STV valve
    Claus,

Do you already have a 1964 type evaporator core? I don't know for sure, but I don't think the 1967+ POA valve will fit properly with the earlier evaporator core tubes that were designed to connect with an STV valve.

The picture above shows the STV valve fastened on the bracket on the outer AC box
Scott if i use a 1967 POA valve i suppose i must use different tubes or a different evaporator?i did some search on the STV valve and when comparing the original 1964 Corvette stv valve(to the left)with the stv valve for a 1964 Chevelle-El Camino the upper half of the valve on the valve must be identical?Look at the holes for the screws for the bracket and also the place for the pipe that points upwardHere is a restored STV valve for a 1964 Corvette Here is the valve for the Chevelle- El Camino . Note the top half looks just like the one on the Corvette. Yoe have the 2 holes for attaching the bracket and also the hole close to the top bracket hole for the little pipe that you see on the first small picture for the Corvette STV on the first small picture

        Claus,

I see what you mean about the similarities between the Corvette STV and the Chevelle-El Camino STV, but I'm not sure where you're going with the comparison. If you were thinking of using the Chevelle-El Camino STV as a substitute for the Corvette STV, I would hold out until a Corvette STV comes along. It’s much cheaper than buying the Chevelle STV, and then buying the Corvette STV later on if/when you find out the Chevelle STV won’t work.

If they were interchangeable, I suspect GM would have classified them both as Service parts for either application. I don’t know what the part numbers are so I haven’t checked, but I doubt these two STV valves are interchangeable.

I’m not saying an engineer couldn’t make it work, but there has to be a better way. There are lots of old Corvettes that used the STV valve, and many of them have been restored, so there must be a solution to this problem.

I was thinking of using the Chevelle stv valve temporary until i get hold on a original valve
I will take off the bottom piece of the Chevelle stv valve so if i buy that valve for $120 just for looks sort of speak

I i was so lucky that i got hold of a original STV valve, stv valve bracket and evaporator for $200
I have been looking for screws and bolts for the blower motor and blower motor housing on different Corvette parts suppliers but i have not found any of those clips and screws
Any that know where i can get hold of the screws and clips for blower motor and blower motor housing?

              Claus,

LIC should have what you need in Sections 35, 36 & 37 of their website. You can download their parts catalog on PDF from their home page, which should make searching for specific parts easier.

Are you putting this together "just for looks", or are you going to make it functional? If functional, and the STV valve checks out okay (or you get it rebuilt), then you might want to replace the evaporator core with something about 4-1/2 decades newer and install everything once, instead of taking a chance and having to do it twice if the evaporator fails.

Re: Putting back factory AC on my 1964 Corvette coupe special high performance add va

Hi Scott. I have been looking at the parts at LIC and Sections 35, 36 & 37 several times but i never have seen the clips and screws just for attaching the blower motor house to the
outer AC box and the scres and clip to attach the blower motor to the blower house. I see that they have all of the screws and parts for the outer ac assembly but i did not manage to find the clips and screws
But i will look again. Also i will have the AC fully funcional. I will order the STV diaphgram for the valve together with some other AC parts including a new evaporator
On the picture below you can see the blower motor house and outer ac box where i need the screws and clips. You can see the holes on top of the blower motor housing where the clips and screws for the blower motor goes

Also what do i need to do to convert the factory ac to todays standard/ refrigeramnt?

                  Claus,

These things aren't easy to describe without AIM references and part numbers, but since they're not in the AIM, I'll have to "wing it"

Keep in mind that your 1964 may be slightly different from my '67. I don't know who sells those particular small screws that attach the blower motor to the outer "donut" housing, but I can describe mine ('67 with A/C). They are indented hex washer-face or flange-head screws, 1/4" across-the-flats, with a pointed tip, a delta or triangle headmark and no grade lines. You can see a picture of what looks like this same screw being used on a 1964 fuel injection unit in Adams, p. 232.

These 5 screws measure #8-18 x 1/2", and they are serrated on the underside of the head.

I have other similar looking screws for the rest of the evaporator housing (20+ screws), most have a "C" headmark and are just slightly shorter (#8-18 x 3/8"). I'm not sure which clips you are referring to, I have four green zinc-chromate J-clips on the evaporator itself (at the bolt attachment points), but not for the tiny screws that hold the evaporator housing together, or for the tiny screws that hold the blower motor to the evaporator "donut" housing. Should there be J-clips at these locations? I don't know.

I do have three J-nut clips for the three larger screws that attach the interior of the blower motor "donut" housing to the evaporator housing box. They are green zinc-chromate, stamped "T" (for "Tinnerman" Co., I would guess) and "1420", the bolts that go through them have some unusual characteristics (shallow indented hex-head washer-face, 3/8" ATF, flat tip with deep slot cut into the tip, 3-dots in the shape of a triangle for headmark), but these are hidden once installed so any correct size bolt should work. They are 1/4-20 x 3/4", and any good heavy duty 1/4-20 J-nut should work (they are fairly thick, much stronger than the wiper grille or rocker panel J-clips, for example).

You can see the lower two (of three total) screws in the picture below, along with part of the green zinc-chromate J-clips that are on the opposite side. The second picture shows the clips and the slotted screw ends from the opposite side.

                    Claus,

It is my understanding that the POA valves (1967+) can be adjusted internally to work with the newer refrigerants during a rebuild of the valve, but I don'tknow if the earlier STV valve can be adapted to newer refrigerants or not. After reading many A/C posts in the archives, it seems the chances of getting the whole C60 system to work properly are better if using the refrigerant for which the system was designed, regular R12 Freon.

I now i wrote putting factory AC back on car will it add value but the main reason is that i have tried to get hold of the factory AC parts i miss for my car back since 1994 so now that i have the parts i am quite a happy fellow

Fist of all i have recived the screws for the whole AC assembly except the clips that attach the blower motor housing to the outer AC box(only 3 clips)

I have some questions about the insulation and seals for the outer AC assembly
So i post some pictures of the insulation of a friend of mine. The outer AC parts without any insulation on is for my car

Is the outer AC box supposed to be insulated like on he picture below? My friends outer AC assembly with insulation

Is the inside of the evaportaor suposed to be insulated like on the picture below? Aslo my friends outer AC assembly with insulation

I suppose that there is supposed to be a seal between the blower motor housing and outer AC box? See picture below. This is my outer AC assembly

This is the seal kit that came with the outer AC box assembly. I must be missing the insulation for the outer AC assembly? This is my outer AC assembly and seals. The evaporator housing is out for painting
Note that i have attached all of the small original screws to the outer AC assembly. The STV valve, bracket and evaporator have also arrived in Oslo so i will have it here at my home in a day or so

                        Claus,

Check Doc Rebuild's catalog for part number 8846120 and 8846119, page 50. Not sure if this link will work or not, it took about 30 seconds to load in the web browser: http://www.docrebuild.com/dr-r-web/ac63-a.pdf

It has a drawing of all the various seals and where they go. It includes a circular seal for the blower motor housing to evaporator box housing. Mine had something between the two, not sure if it was an actual circular gasket or just a black caulking-type sealant. The Doc Rebuild kit does not show seals for the inside-front of the case like the ones in your picture, and mine did not have seals in that location when I took it apart. I'm not sure why it wasn't sealed in that area, or why Doc doesn't include seals for that section if it's a good idea.

We need some input from others who have already gone through this particular rebuild

                            Claus,

I remembered an old Thread over on the other forum (here, see post 8) where Doc explains some of what he did during the restoration of the AC system on his '67. He modified a few things (extra screen, extra interior paint, weatherstrip adhesive caulk on the spot-welded seams and in the gaps between the sponge rubber seals, etc.). Since he was making these other improvements to his own car's C60 system, it makes me wonder why he wouldn't have put sponge rubber seals on the interior front of the case (like your pictures show) while he had it apart, unless there is some reason not to?

I am a happy fellow this days
Just came back from the post office after picking up more parts that is difficult to get hold of
Got the STV valve, STV valve bracket, expansion valve and evaporator today
I am looking at this evaporator and the replacement evaporator for the 1964 from Long Island Corvette i can not see any difference at all on this evaporators
Should i get a new one or pressure test this old one?

One more thing that i am sure of is that the top of STV valve on the Chevelle is identical to the Corvette

Here is a picture that came with the parts(suppose it fell of the evaporator when the parts was packed in the box)
Can any here tell me which year this is for?

When i bought the car back in 1993 i decided that i would put the factory AC back on the car and i am almost ready. All of the AC parts i have gotten within one month this year
That is the reason i want the factory AC back on and not to add value to the car . But still wonder why some owners before me cut the AC box in half?

Here is a picture of the trim tag on my car

Daytona blue exterior and blue interior but there is no hurry getting the paint back to Daytona blue since the car have paint which is perfect as it is now

Forgot to say that the AC parts have not cost my much either which is a nice surprise

I must also mention all the nice friends i have gotten in the US because of this Corvette hobby
Both the ones that wants the cars all original and those who like the cars a little modified
