    A Arm dust cover replacements

I am trying to replace the dust covers on a 66 coupe. The kit came with staples and I am seeing rivets in the wheel well under the old covers.

Which is correct the rivets or the staples?

How the heck do you drive the staples through the dust covers and through the wheel well fiberglass?

    thank you in advance....Dan

The staples are correct. What I do providing the staple holes are still in the inner fender is drill them out one drill size bigger, then hold the dust covers up in place and from the outside drill thru the holes in the fenders and thru the new shields. If you don't have original inner fenders and they don't have the staple holes then you can just drill the new staple holes where you see fit. I have found the best way that I know of to bend the staples over again to look like factory is to use a needle nose pliers and then you can bend the staple in an arch as were the originals.

      Dan,
My sixty-six had staples only and I glued (just a little) the new covers to hold them in place and then with a very small drill bit I used the original holes in the fiberglass as a guide to drill through the new covers so they are in the exact same places as the originals.

Russ and Peter, Thank you very much for the info. You both suggested the direction I was thinking I ought to go. Great confirmation by both of you. I really did not want to have to pull the wheel, but that is the only way to tackle both sides of the problem.

One last question....I presume that the staples go through the wheel well first and are turned over in the engine department.

        Again, thank you

          Dan -

The staples are inserted from the engine compartment side, and are bent over on the tire side.
