Re: 63 Brake Drums.
Hi Gary,
I guess yours is a 2-part question. Correct may not be best.
My '64 has drum brakes similar to your '63. The ability to stop was my main concern and I chose drums, shoes, cylinders and springs from "MuscleCarBrakes.com". I'm not on the road yet so I have no results to report, but the research I did before buying convinced me that their components would be a good choice.Attached Files- Top

Re: 63 Brake Drums.
Gary;
I have bought them from both LI Corvette and Corvette Paragon for my '63. The ones from LI Corvette did not have the front adjusting slots and therefore were returned. The Corvette Paragon drums fit fine and had the slots, but I did need to have them "trued up" by the local machine shop..
Other guys will weigh in but this is what I have experienced.
Good luck,

Re: 63 Brake Drums.
I bought drums from Ecklers a couple years back when I changed my brakes from Sintered Metallic to Matrix Ceramic. The drums did not have the adjustment slots and were sort of generic. I could not get them to adjust properly and it seemed that they did not fit back to the backing plates and the shoes would not match the braking surface properly. I ended up having to cut my originals a small amount, then they worked fine. I had been told that 40,000 miles with metallic brakes would speel the end of the drums. Not so.

Re: 63 Brake Drums.
New drums for a '63 are available from NAPA:
Part # 440-1062 front $49.99 on line price
Part # 440-1060 rear $52.99 on line price
These may or may not resemble the originals, but they will fit and work fine.

Re: 63 Brake Drums.
Whatever the Corvette repro parts houses are selling are probably no different than what you can buy at NAPA or any other parts stores - just a different box. Buy a mainstream brand to be sure of the best currently available qualilty.
If you are using conventional shoes, install them as is. If you are using metallic shoes have the friction surfaces polished to a 30 micro-inch RMS finish.
Since little, can be seen of the drums in Flight judging, I don't think you will loose any points, but maybe a Mech II judge can weigh in.
