Post #6 below labels the weld nut in the pic as "Type 1 nut". What does this mean? Is the weld nut (the one that the shaft threads into) special for Type 1?

      Thanks

Bill...since you are my "friend" I feel I can post this....your late 65 (vin 21326) has a Type 3 jack. This is probable because the Type 3 jack started appearing in the 65's 20K vin range Here is a picture I took of yours.

Here is my understanding of the differences between the jack types:
Type I Jack: Outboard big hex screw nut + flat stamped steel lift arms + solid metal bearing on drive nut end: 63 up to 65 use of Type II
Type II Jack: Outboard big hex screw nut + reinforced lift arms on drive nut end + solid metal bearing on drive nut end: Start of use has controvery as to 65 vins 12K or 15K
Type III Jack: Inboard big hex screw nut + reinforced lift arms on drive nut end + acetal resin bearing between two metal washers on the drive nut end: thought to start with 65 vin 20Kish and used in 66 and 67. Dating of jacks starting with January, 1967.
Of course there is overlapping as inventory was used up.

Gary, I know that the "u"-shaped bracket is outboard on Type 1, but are you saying that the nut welded to it is square, not hexagonal? Thanks
