    Brake/Clutch/Accelerator Shaft Finishes 1970

Appreciate help determining the correct finish(es) for the pedal shafts of a 1970. Thanks...Redroadster

The brake and clutch pedal shafts were semi-gloss black. The accelerator shaft was natural steel.

      Hi Clark,
On my 71 just the lower 2/3 of the arms were painted. There's a rather distinct line where the paint ends which I believe indicates they were partially dipped to paint.
Is that how they were done Joe?
      Regards,
      Alan

Yes, that's how it was. The clutch pedal was usually painted further up the shaft than the brake pedal, just as shown in your photo. However, the length of the painted portion does vary a bit, probably as a result of the guy that did the dipping being not so careful.

I have seen SERVICE examples of both pedals that were completely painted, including the cross shaft section of the clutch pedal.

Thanks Joe and Alan...I couldn't find the subject addressed in the JM.
Alan...I belonged to Mason Dixon before moving to the Eastern Shore some 10 years ago and attended a judging last year in Bel Air. Great group of guys...Clark

            Hi Clark,
I'm a bit envious of you living on the Eastern Shore. Are you near the bay by any chance?
I've been a member of the Mason Dixon chapter for quite a few years and have always enjoyed the Chapter Judging Meets.
I hope to see you (and your car!) at one.... maybe this Fall?
            Regards,
            Alan

Hi Alan...We moved from Severna Park in 2003 to Prospect Bay (Grasonville) and love it. We've owned our '70 air roadster since 1972 and I've kept it original so the "numbers" match. Over the years the windshield frame rusted badly. Fortunately, I found a complete windshield frame in California two years ago and had Jim Vertichio in Cambridge install it. After seeing how much had to be removed for the installation I decided was now or never for a frame off. The car is back together (jim painted it) and is in Centreville at Frank Cimba's garage where I've leased space. Putting in new wiring harnesses now and ready to drop in the drive train so getting close. Biggest remaining challenge is the interior.

Corvette Annapolis (NCCC) to which we belong has a big show annually at the Annapolis City dock in August so that's my goal. If not, Ocean City in October. Woud like to have Mason Dixon judge the car when it's ready and would like to see your '71 some time. Thanks for your interest. Best...Clark
