I need a correct cap and am looking at two caps...need help determining if they are correct.

Both are GM "NOS" & have "S" in center
    the first one is part # 3787292 - group # 3.028

the second one is part # 3814136

    Daniel------

I can tell you that the GM #3787292 is the SERVICE part number originally supplied for 1960 Corvettes and it might be the same as that originally installed in PRODUCTION. However, there are nuances associated with these caps and I cannot guarantee you that a cap in a box labeled 3787292 will be exactly the same as that originally installed on the car. It may be or it may not be.

The GM #3814436 is a 1963 replacement for the 3787292. It likely is not configuration-correct but it will be 100% functionally correct for the application.

        Checkout this link. http://www.topflightrepro.com/corvet...on-parts.shtml

A bit pricey $$$$, but claim to be correct configuration.

Dan, The pics in the 58-60 Judging Guide are of the ones you need. Or do you have photos of the ones you're considering? - Bob

Noland Adam's book entitled "The Complete Corvette Restoration & Technical Guide - Vol. 1 1953 through 1962" has some good information and factory drawings about 59-61 Corvette gas caps on pages 238 & 239. The link below shows a used 3764641 cap on Ebay (NOT mine). Apparently there were 3 different caps issued on the production line.

Just be sure not to use the cap in the photo on p. 239 of Noland's book. It isn't a Corvette cap; Corvette caps had no raised letters like that and were unvented. 472 is mid-57 to early 58. The other three work for the rest of 58 through 62. - Bob

                Bob,
I agree. The cap embossed "ANTI SURGE" & "VENTED" in the photo on page 239 is a replacement cap made by Stant (part number G40) which can be used on many different models.
