I am getting ready to replace the stock clutch in my 71 LT-1 and would like to know the correct configuration. I believe it is an 11" clutch with a fine spline (26 spline) pressure plate but want to validate. I understand the originals are no longer avaialble and have been told to go with a hayes replacement. Thanks.

Yours would be a fine spline, unsure about diameter. I've been very satisfied with my LUK heavy usage clutch.....comparable to a Hayes Street/Strip clutch. Pedal touch is no heavier than a standard clutch. Got mine throught Carolina Clutch(?).- Top

Your application originally used a 26 spline, 11" diaphragm-type clutch with a 14" flywheel (unless you have one of the 8 ZR-1's built for 1971).
Your best bet is to go with the LUK clutch for your application. That will give you the most stock-like performance available today. LUK is one of the major manufacturers of clutches in the world and makes many for the OEM's. Many C4 clutches were originally of LUK manufacture. I expect that C5 and C6 are, too.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1971 LT-1 Clutch Configuration
All thanks for the information.
Michael - Thanks for the link, quick question. I just got off the phone with Carolina Clutch and they do not show an application for the "Gold heavy duty replacement kit" for 1971 corvette. They do show a standard duty replacement 11" for the 454 and that would probably work but wanted to check before I ordered.
Thanks- Top

Re: 1971 LT-1 Clutch Configuration
The only potential difference should be the clutch disc. In your case would need the 26 spline disc.....pressure plate would/should be the same. Most likely can make the request for the change to the fine spline disc.
Interesting note.....during my research contacted a tech at LUK for more info. He indicated most all 11" clutch discs as they're called are only 10 3/4", the LUK heavy useage disc is 11 1/8". Obvisoulsy giving the user more engagment on the fly wheel. Pressure plate and disc fits with NO clearance issues. Pedal pressure has been a non-issue.....smooth as butter. I did not use their supplied throw out bearing and chose to use a National self centering bearing.- Top
