Could someone help me clairify what side of the car the hood support should be on a 1st week of October VIN# in the 2,700 big block 66 corvette. I have heard that all BB cars before VIN 3,600 had the hood support on the passenger side with 65 hoods retro-fitted with 66 emblems. Were all cars in this period this way or where there variances in this time period. What provisions to the inner fender where made to accept the hood support. Was there a bracket mounted under the inner fender to support the mounting of the hood support and if so were they inner changeable from side to side? Any pictures to help clairfy would be great. Thanks.

Re: Early 1966 Big Block hood support.
At the change from 65-66, the inner-fenders were to be re-designed to accept hood supports on both sides, and the 66 hoods were to have LH mounts. Obviously the change didn't occur at the exact model change, so there was some over run of 65 hoods, which had RH mounts, into the 66 year model. I don't know just how long that delay on 66 hoods was, but there were some. I doubt it lasted into the 3600 range, but I have no proof of that. Usually these changes occurred within several hundred units. The inner-fender change was likely made long before the hood change. There was also a change to SB AC bodies to the LH side about the same time.
So, if your car has 66-67 type inner-fenders, the support could have been mounted on either side with no change to procedure. The bracket will go on either side. Which ever side your hood mount was on, is the side that will be drilled for the bracket.
Maybe someone can come up with a last know example for 65 or a first known example for 66.- Top
