    65 Paint Overspray

I recently sold a 65 I had for 12 years and had it judged many times at all levels. I did buy a new s/b 65 and I want some work done on it - went to my restorer the other day with a list I want done. One of the things I had listed is that the car seems to have overspray on the bottom of the fan shroud I want removed. I was told that all 65 have some type of overspray on them - never lost any points on my old one. Nothing listed in the J/G on this subject. Who is correct? Thanks

    Edward,

There would be body color paint/overspray across the bottom of the core support but I don't think there should be any on the fan shroud. The shroud wasn't even within 100 feet of the body when the body was painted.

      Mike's right.

Not every '65 was painted uniformly. However, if you have full paint coverage on the lower front fiberglass, then you'll have paint overspray on the bottom edge of the core support since the core support was in place during body paint. The two phillips head screws/bolts on the underneath side were also in place during body paint, so they too should be body color. If the painter never reached the lowest portion of the front fiberglass, then there's probably not going to be any paint on the bottom of the core support. However, the fan shroud was not in place during paint.

As for the core support, there a difference between the A. O. Smith bodies and the St. Louis bodies. A. O. Smith bodies had core supports that started in green primer before black out whereas St. Louis cars had black core supports before black out.
