Air Cleaner Wing Nut 1957 verses 1960's version.

Okay, I give up...how can one differentiate between a correct air cleaner wing nut for a C1 1957 carburettor car and the wing nuts for 1958 and later cars???
I noticed in the judging manual the photo for the 56-57 car showed a wing nut that was stamped like the ones for later cars and had a small hole in one of the "wings." Is that it?
Could I drill a hole in a later style and get away with it?

Thanks C1 experts for any insights
