    Correct fastener

Can anyone please show me a picture of the correct fastener/retainer used to secure the front top fender molding on a '62?

    Thanks!

    Re: Correct fastener

I think you need two types. Paragon probably has a kit, or do you want to know "original style"? I think I saw this recently, so let me make a search.

Also, Paragon kit number 4404K says "These moldings come with self cutting speed nuts, not the special retainers as original."

Per the AIM, Positions "D" are the last two at the rear of each. Those (four spots) got something different.

I have the original moldings and what came off of one side is a speed nut about the size of a nickel.
Cant find those anywhere. Wasnt sure if that was correct.

How early is the 62? First type are flat and hexagonal. Second type a speed nut with a flange for a shoulder.

Hard to tell when covered with undercoating.

Never seen a 62 yet where all the top spear retainers were covered with undercoating.

Absolutely correct for earlier cars in 62!!!!!!! What is your VIN? I have no idea where to find those. Both of my bowtie 62's (2266 and 2964) have those. I think that my 3390 had those, but I took them off in 1977 to paint the car, and didn't pay that much attention 35 years ago! Hopefully someone knows correct terminology for those, and can point us to where to find them.
                  Regards,
                  Mike

                    Re: Correct fastener

I thought these were correct for my early '62 car VIN 2550.
I only have ten of these for one side. Was missing one.
The other side has had work previously and had the incorrect fasteners.
Small speed nuts are all that are available now and are not the correct ones.
                    Looking for options.

Anyone have any of these fasteners they would be willing to sell me? I need about fifteen of them.
PM me if you do. These hold the front top fender molding to the fender.

Does anyone have a proper precise description for what these would be called in the fastener world?

They look very similar to the license plate mounting nut for the front of C1s. Check out the picture at CC.

I would call them stamped self threading nuts. AMK Products has a nut that might be close, but not exact. The description indicates 5/32 stud, 11/32 hex with a finish of black Phosphate. There part number is (KYB) 9418239.

                              Maybe?
