    Distributor coil mount screw

My feeble mind is failing me with regard to the screw that closes and applies tension to keep the coil from turning in the mount. Is the screw a coarse or fine thread screw, and how long is it supposed to be? Also, is it a slot or phillips head screw?

Kurt, the screw is a coarse thread, round head and is sloted, length? about 1 1/4inchs.

Hi Kurt. Does this help? It's a tough screw to find, just reaching the back/far side of the bracket when securing the coil to the bracket. I believe the shank of the screw is smooth so as not to mark the coil itself. This screw won't reach the back side of the bracket when using a repro coil due to the repro coil's oversized can diameter. I keep a double set up so I don't have to take the coil in and out of the bracket for judging. I just remove the entire assembly.

I just happened to have my original screw, bracket and coil in the house when I read your post. Lemme know if you want any other photos to see needed details.

Not sure this screw on my 70 is original but it looks just like Don's, and does just reach the other side of the bracket.

Alan, you're so perceptive. Funny thing is, I had to reach PAST the extra spare tire and tub to get this screw....... Just kid'n.

Actually, I keep a tub (hopefully, I'm not alone on this) of original parts and documentation in the house when the car isn't set up for judging. An old, expensive coil, rad cap, seat shims, T3's, points/condenser, etc are all in this tub. It's not in the bedroom, however, it IS close
