C1 Powerglide - Random Bolt Question

When I purchased the "short" tailshaft unit for my 1954 Corvette Powerglide transmission there was included with it and the output shaft a strange bolt that was center drilled the length of the bolt with as I recall a wire running through it. Now I should have asked this question before sending my Powerglide transmission out for a rebuild I suppose - what was the purpose of this bolt and where was it to be installed? I received the rebuilt transmission over the weekend and just got to thinking of this and was wondering if it is something I should check to see if it was installed....
    Thanks,
    John

the "special" bolt and washer hold the output shaft in the transmission - then the tailshaft housing bolts over the top.

Interesting...Well this helps me out. Now I can "intelligently" ask the question of the rebuilder to make sure it was installed and why it is designed so....
Funny thing as I get into the restorations and all hands on with doing our as much of the work as possible - whenever I send something out to the professional such as this rebuild I hate to second guess the workmanship. Besides it is the satisfaction of seeing how things work that makes much of the restoration process worthwhile but a transmission rebuild - well that is another thing left to the professionals. Appreicate the help Chris.
