70 Vert. rear body/fibergkass underside finishes

While I have the rear suspension out I am trying to do a little detailing of the underneath.

Did body color paint get on the battery or Jack box? I was cleaning the outside of the jack box and noticed some white paint and underneath the white is red primer.

Did any overspray get on the fiberglass box where the rear vents are located?

Keep in mind that bubba found a sale on black paint so most everything is or was black underneath.

    Thanks,

    Bill

It is pretty common to see body color on the outside of the battery and jack storage compartments -- sometimes not even covered with blackout although it was supposed to be. It is especially obvious on red and yellow cars and I suppose white would count as well. Body color got inside the rear vents, but there was a blackout operation that was supposed to cover that. I have seen situations where the blackout operation int he rear vents was shot at such an angle that if you look down the vent toward the rear of the car you can see where the blackout didn't cover the body color. Remember these guys were shooting that blackout while the next car was right behind them.

      Thanks Terry.

Did they also shoot red primer on the entire body. I can say that it sure looks like the same red primer I saw on the lower part of the windshield frame.

Would it be correct to say that all the blackout occurred before the body drop?

        Hi Terry,

Well I just had to get back under there and clean up a little. There is a definite break where the black out occurred.

I think I will be able to preserve 90% or more of the original black out in that area. It is cleaning up nicely.

Thank you for all you help

Yes, black out (almost all of it) occurred before body drop. It might even have been all of the black out, but I have learned to never say "never" or "always". I suppose there could have been some black out touch up at some point if someone got their shorts in a wad about how much body color was showing, but that was not the usual occurrence.

It is good to save the original black out if you can. Original is always better.

Bill, Not sure if your car has shoulder harnesses, My 72 has shoulder harnesses and the metal brackets under rear wheel wells got undercoated and some of the undercoating oversparyed on to my battery box side and storage compartment side.
